He is a Spanish Medical Doctor, graduated from the University of Valencia (Valencia, Spain) in 1978, where he also obtained his PhD, in 1980. He specialized in obstetrics and gynecology at the Hospital Clinico in Valencia, and at Yale University (USA) and Mainz University (Germany).

He is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Universidad de Valencia since 1999, and Dean of the Medicine faculty since 2006. Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at La Fe Hospital in Valencia sin 2009. Co-founder and co-president of the Valencian Institute of Infertility. He is also a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) executive comitee and of the International Federation of Fertility Societies. He was president of the Spanish Society of Fertility between 1994 and 1996. At present, he is member of the National Assisted Reproduction Commission.

His career has received numerous awards for his contribution to the reproductive health field: seven Annual Meeting Prize Paper from the American Society for Reproduction, XXV Society for Gynecological lnvestigation President’s Award in 2002, Rey Jaime I award in the Clinical Medicine modality, among many others. Recently, was appointed Doctor Honoris Causa from Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in Gandia, Valencia, in 2011.
